Audience and Genre Research

Magazine: Kerrang
While doing research into my chosen genre i looked at the Kerrang, i noticed how they use corroded fonts and graphic images throughout to attract there audience.

from looking at this magazine i have decided that i will use corroded fonts throughout my magazine and use bands/genre that relate to my social group

Exploring the rock genre:

Exploring Rock Genre and sub-genre

since my magazine will be baced on "Heavy metal" i found this useful to deterime what kind of bands i should add into my magazine and what kind of bands would attract the correct audience

Media case studies

The music idol displayed above is David Draiman. Just by looking at this picture what can you see? There are no right answers; everyone sees the world from a different perspective. Though when I look at this image the first thing that draws my attention is the use of the metal chains rapped around his body. This represents that he is being restricted but by who? Well I think that the chains are to represent the government chaining down freedom and creativity. There will be a lot of different cultural interpretations for this picture alone but I believe that it represents his freedom. This is a liberal philosophy. In addition to the theme of being controlled he still is smiling in this photo therefore creating the idea that his never going to give up and will continue with his music even though they’re trying to restrict him. Finally, the last basic point about this photo is the use of direct mode of address. The use of this camera technique is to make the viewers feel like he is staring right into their souls thus creating a more aggressive pose for the artist. This goes with the theme of being controlled and it also makes him look like he has a plan. This photo shows a way to be free. We can build up a story of this image using the concept of freedom.

I believe if there is a story behind this image it would be based on one of his songs specifically 10000 Fists (based on politics and world corruption). Looking at the lyrics of the song and comparing them to the image I would say this image portrays the story of a man once sane who has been corrupted and controlled by the government, never letting him free, never letting him escape, though he’s got a plan to break the chains and be free (Because of his devious smile). And when he’s free he’s planning on revenge (due to his vengeful eyes)
